Yesterday’s denial by NMB of permission for the DA to protest Jacob Zuma’s corruption at City Hall today, shows that Danny Jordaan will do anything to protect his close ally, Jacob Zuma.
Jordaan was deployed to NMB by Jacob Zuma, to do the ANC’s dirty work, and now it is clear also to use the municipality for ANC politics.
The reasons given for refusing our permission were spurious, and probably illegal.
Under Danny Jordaan, the NMB municipality is being used to protect the ANC and Jacob Zuma, rather than protecting the people against corruption.
We have every right to march today, and the denial of this right by the NMB Municipality shows that the coming election will see state abuse by the ANC.
The DA was set to march for CHANGE and in protection of the Constitution, showing up Jacob Zuma’s corruption and that Zuma has broken our constitution and violated his oath of office.
Over the last year, I have been to every single ward multiple times. I have rolled up my sleeves and spent many days with the people of Nelson Mandela Bay, many of whom suffer terrible indignity at the hands of a broken government.
I have seen widespread poverty, unemployment, undignified sanitation and thousands of bucket toilets, horrendous water losses, crumbling roads, dilapidating RDP houses and a Metro that is being taken backwards, by the ANC.
There is no good governance story to tell here in Nelson Mandela Bay, but that seemingly won’t stop the ANC from pretending so.
Real good governance starts with change and a new DA government, to see this Metro turned around. With immediate infrastructure upgrades, proper economic development, zero-tolerance on corruption and seamless housing projects, Nelson Mandela Bay will quickly rise to the top, just as Cape Town did after the DA took over.
