A dangerous prison escapee was shot in the foot shortly before being rearrested after a high-speed police chase in Port Elizabeth on Friday.
Police said Lungisile Mukuma, 28, had apparently been on the run for more than two months after escaping from the Kwanobuhle police holding cells on the 9th of July.
Mukuma was spotted in Central and police gave chase. He eventually crashed the stolen vehicle he was driving near Paterson Road and tried to flee, but was shot in the right foot.
He was arrested by police taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Mukuma was wanted in connection with a string of criminal cases including ATM bombings, house robbery, cash-in-transit robbery, hijacking and escaping from custody.
