The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has extended a welcome Thamsanqa Balindlela as its Confidential Councillor Candidate in Cumakala; Amahlati Local Municipality.
He is one of a number of former COPE public representatives who have joined the DA in the Eastern Cape including Nosimo Balindlela MP, Nqaba Bhanga MP, Rano Kyser Cllr, and Mlindi Nhanha MP.
Thamsanqa Balindlela served as a COPE Councillor for 5 years and has officially resigned from his position as of today, 30 May 2016.
Under COPE; Cllr Balindlela served as an IEC representative, an MPLC member, treasurer in sub-regions, and as a deputy secretary within the regional structures of COPE.
Cllr Balindlela has been perceived as a threat by the ruling party due to his continued fights of transparency relating to budget reports and financial expenditure in the Council MPAC committee.
“We hope Cllr Balindlela will continue with his efforts of ensuring an honest government and ensure the council is responsive to the needs of the community as Amahlati Municipality cannot rely on the ANC for basic service delivery anymore,” the DA said in a statement.
“Cllr Balindlela will work towards being part of a growing community that will vote for change that will stop corruption and create opportunities. The DA will always put Amahlati Local Municipality residents first because where we do not govern; we want to bring change that will move Amahlati residents forward again,” concluded the DA.
