Presented at the Barn Theatre in Port Elizabeth‘s opera House, Curl Up and Dye is a bitter, biting and funny play set in a hairdressing salon where you are witness to the inevitable power games which are played. The world here is hard and cheap to hold onto but it is also a world inhabited by five remarkable women. We laugh with them, we cry with them and leave their world touched deeply.
Curl Up Dye is written by Sue-Pam Grant, directed by Marlene Pieterse and stars Emily Bradley, Nobesuthu Rayi, Anneke Groenewald, Danielle Koning Olwethu Mdala.
Director Marlene Pieterse, having completed her studies in Drama, has worked locally and nationally acting and directing Musicals, Cabarets, Operas, Radio Dramas and popular annual Children’s Theatre productions. Marlene started Stageworld Theatre School – the only Performing Arts tertiary institution in the Eastern Cape in 1998 with full time courses being offered from 1999.
This school under the guidance and tutelage of Marlene has produced many well known actors appearing on local and international stage and theatre productions and stages namely Masasa Mbangeni.
Curl up and Dye is part of the Drama Seasons series at The PE Opera House which showcases commissioned works staged every month for a week long short run. This programme is designed to breathe life into ready productions that are produced largely by local based experts.
