“Yes, Eskom has received a court interdict in the labour court preventing Numsa workers from undergoing industrial action,” spokesman Andrew Etzinger said.
Eskom workers affiliated to the National Union of Metalworkers of SA were planning on picketing outside Eskom’s head offices in Sunninghill, Johannesburg on Wednesday.
They were demanding an increase of 12 percent across the board.
Numsa also wanted a R1000 housing allowance and a standby allowance of R100.
Union spokesman, Castro Ngobese, said the court interdict would not stop them from demonstrating.
“We are continuing tomorrow whether they have an interdict or not,” said Ngobese.
“We aren’t threatened by Eskom’s interdict and it should not be wasting money and energy on interdicts.”
He said the manner in which Eskom had handled the matter had angered the workers.
The union’s members had a right to demand better wages, Ngobese said.
