Cosmos feel PSL’s wrath

UNLUCKY: Lucky Mhlathe

Cosmos were this week found guilty and fined R200000 for wearing their training jerseys for their away Absa Premiership match against Maritzburg United on December 17.

In terms of Rule 12 and the kit manual, all clubs are required to wear jerseys with the league sponsors’ logo on the right sleeve.

PSL head of legal affairs Ntsietso Mofokeng said Cosmos pleaded guilty and were fined R200000, of which R150000 was suspended for 12 months.

Cosmos were also ordered to issue a public apology after their media officer Lucky Mhlathe failed to take along alternative kit to Port Elizabeth for the game.

They were compelled to use their warm-up tops instead as their jerseys clashed with that of United. Mhlathe has apologised and taken full responsibility for the incident.

Cosmos boss Jomo Sono said: “Cosmos regrets this unfortunate incident and I have accepted full guilt, with a promise that this will not happen again.

“On behalf of Jomo Cosmos, I wish to send my profound apologies to the chairman of the league, Dr Irvin Khoza, the board as well as the sponsors and the SABC over the incident.”

In another case, Orlando Pirates pleaded not guilty to a charge of spectator misbehaviour at the Telkom Knockout final against Bidvest Wits on December 11. The matter was adjourned to February 7.

Moroka Swallows pleaded guilty for failing to submit team sheets on time in a game against Platinum Stars on December 17. They were fined R5000.

In the National First Division, FC Cape Town striker Joseph Tseko Lekata was fined R30000 when he splashed water at the referee after he was shown a red card in a game against FC AK on December 18.

His team was cautioned and ordered to issue a written apology to the PSL within 14 days.

Meanwhile, Atlie FC was fined R30000 for fielding Andile Khena in the Nedbank Cup game against Mpumalanga Black Aces despite accumulating three yellow cards.
