Port Elizabeth – A policeman has been shot dead by three men at his home in KwaDwesi township in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Three men entered the 58-year-old warrant officer’s house at around 20:00 on Monday and demanded to see him, Captain Ernest Sigobe said.
“They shot the officer and fled on foot without taking anything from the house,” he said.
He died on the way to hospital.
Sigobe said the motive for the attack was not immediately clear and that a murder docket had been opened.
The policeman was stationed at the Gelvandale police station in Port Elizabeth at the time of his death.
Eastern Cape provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta condemned the murder.
“We will leave no stone unturned until the killers are brought to book,” Binta said.
