The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality wishes to advise customers and householders of the city that staff employed in the Electricity and Energy Directorate of the Municipality have embarked on a strike this morning. Therefore, the usual technical services provided by this Directorate, including attending to calls from the public regarding ‘No supply’ and ‘No street lighting’ situations, by both the Munelek Building (Harrower Road) and the Uitenhage Traffic Department, are temporarily not available.
It should be noted that the strike action affects technical services only; customers can still transact financial and account-related matters through Customer Care Centres and the other usual municipal offices.
The Municipality wishes to reassure residents that it is committed to resolve the strikes currently experienced in the institution. Towards this end, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Benson Fihla, has established a special task team mandated to focus exclusively on the current strike related action and long-standing staff grievances. The strike-related action currently experienced is therefore actively investigated and pursued by a specially established top-level task team.
The Municipality wishes to apologise to residents for the inconvenience caused by this strike action and calls for their patience and understanding while it attempts to resolve the strikes as soon as possible.
