Four days of action packed, colourful sailing returns to the shores of Port Elizabeth’s Hobie beach when the Hobie 16 Class National Championships 2012 is sailed from 27 to 30 April 2012.
In 2005 the Chevrolet Hobie 16 World Championships saw international focus on Port Elizabeth’s Hobie Beach. The 2012 Hobie Nationals will once again see many Hobie’s in a colourful and exciting four day sailing spectacular easily accessible to spectators from the beach and Shark Rock Pier.
Organisers are predicting a bumper crop of 75 boats that will part in this racing spectacular on the beach for which the craft were named.
The Hobie 16 Nationals were also sailed off Hobie Beach in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2005 and now once again in 2012.
The Hobie 16 is a two person catamaran and the biggest, most active one-design class currently sailing in South Africa.
Event organiser, Andrew Ward said; “The Hobie 16 Nationals will once again showcase Port Elizabeth as the premier sailing destination in the Eastern Cape and re-afirm our status as the ‘watersport capital’ of South Africa.”
The nationals will expose the sailing fraternity in South Africa to the opportunities the Eastern Cape has on offer both as a tourist destination and business centre.

Langebaan based Hobie sailing instructor, Sisa Nphikwa, is one of the sailors expected to sail in the Port Elizabeth 2012 Hobie 16 Nationals from 27 to 30 April.
