Goals from Andile Mbenyane and David Zulu, scored from the Chilli Boys’ only efforts on goal, were enough to see the now Eastern Cape outfit claim all three points in an economical performance.
Those were the only efforts on goal from both sides in fact as Stars failed to register a single effort on goal in a match bereft of quality in front of goal.
Kosta Papic’s side got off to a great start at their new home in Port Elizabeth, taking the lead just nine minutes into the clash through Andile Mbenyane’s calm right-footed finish.
As the half wore on, the hosts continued to push forward and were rewarded when new-signing Zulu scored on his competitive debut to double the club’s lead on 27 minutes.
Vast periods of uninspiring play followed as Allan Freese’s men looked increasingly frustrated by their coastal counterparts, no doubt leading to bookings for Bongani Nyathi, Solomon Mathe and Rofhiwa Tshikovhi.
The game then took a nasty turn in the 89th minute as Tshikovhi received his marching orders for a second bookable offence, ultimately summing up a grim evening for the Rustenberg outfit.
