Ernst Middendorp is in trouble with Chippa United supporters, owing to the team’s unsatisfactory results. The supporters are demanding that Middendorp be released from the side immediately.
The Chilli Boys have struggled to pick up enough points under Middendorp so far this year. The Port Elizabeth outfit lost 2-0 against Orlando Pirates last night.
The loss against Bucs was the third of the year for the team, since the coaching changes were made by the club.
The team drew the other two games that have been played under the former Bloemfontein Celtic coach, picking up just two points out of a possible 15.
The Siya crew has it on good authority that Chippa supporters are preparing to invade the Port Elizabeth International Airport to prepare for the team’s arrival, and to show their unhappiness about the German coach in charge of the side.
Yebho Ntoni, who is the chairperson of Chippa supporters in the Eastern Cape, confirmed to the Siya crew that he and the other supporters in the region will be waiting for Middendorp’s arrival from Johannesburg this afternoon.
“There is unhappiness about the lack of results by the team. We have planned to go to the airport today. We have no confidence in the coach. We are not happy with the results and have no confidence in the coach for the way the team is playing under him.
“I’m not sure how the club is feeling about the current situation, but as the supporters we are not happy. We will be showing that at the airport today. It’s not a march and there will be no violence. We will be carrying placards for the chairman (Siviwe Mpengesi) to see what he can do. We want the coach to step down. We don’t want him.
“The team’s supporters don’t want the coach. As the leader of the supporters, I can have my candidate on who we want, but the decision won’t be ours. For now, it’s better for us to just say we don’t want the coach.
“Personally, I know that this is a crucial stage of the season and it can be risky for the club to hire a new coach now. It would be better to get someone who was here before. We haven’t lost many players recently. So a coach that was here not long ago would understand the situation than a new coach altogether,” said Ntoni.
Ntoni refused to confirm that he is referring to Roger Sikhakhane with his comments about a coach they want. Chippa are expected to land in Port Elizabeth at 14:00.
According to Ntoni, the supporters will be waiting at the airport at 13:45 already.
