PORT ELIZABETH – A bus transporting seventeen schoolchildren, their teacher and team manager drove off an embankment in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Senior traffic official Charles Bramwell said the children were members of the Eastern Cape provincial squash team.
“They had been to a tournament in Johannesburg and were on their way to Port Elizabeth when the accident occurred on the Olifantskop pass outside Paterson.”
Bramwell said all 17 of the children were slightly injured.
He said the children were taken to different hospitals in the Eastern Cape.
The cause of the accident wasn’t immediately clear.
The road had been closed while emergency workers attempted to retrieve the damaged bus.
