From 2011, a small group of women from Block 40 (the Precinct’s immediate surrounding community) began attending craft classes at the Museum. Great support was received from some stakeholders, such as the Diaz Quilters Guild. This project has since expanded to include more community members and classes are being run once weekly, in the interim, at the Red Location Art Gallery. This group of women attended the first official Red Location Arts and Crafts Project on 14 September 2012.
The intention of the workshops is to ultimately empower, especially disadvantaged women from the Community, to be facilitated in doing Arts and Crafts around the need for unique Red Location Products and to eventually empower them to take ownership of this project through the establishment of sustainable Red Location Arts and Crafts Cooperative.
Any artist or crafter who would like to contribute their time in running art and craft classes with the group from Red Location Arts and Crafters Project, are welcome to contact Annette at the Red location Museum. If I am not available, please leave more details with the Red Location Museum receptionist.
