The Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), the sole shareholder of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) is hereby calling for board member nominations to serve on the MBDA’s board.The MBDA was established as a Municipal Entity by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality (NMBMM) and holds a mandate from the NMBM to revitalize specific mandated areas within Nelson Mandela Bay, including other emerging nodes, as directed by the NMBMM from time to time. The MBDA furthermore develops tourism real estate through public sector infrastructure investment and a range of other programs to be a catalyst for Private Sector Investment.
The Directors of the MBDA are drawn from the Business Sector, Labour, Community Representatives and National Institutions (private and public) and their nomination is made by the Members of the MBDA, subject to the approval of the Mayoral Committee of NMBMM.
The responsibilities of the Board of Directors of the MBDA include, but are not limited to: Ensuring good corporate governance, Attendance of quarterly board meetings, Participation in the development and approval of five (5) year strategic plans and annual business plans of the MBDA, Assessment of projects and their catalyst impact on private sector investment, Participation in different sub-committees (audit, human resources, finance, etc.).
It is desirable that persons wishing to be nominated to the Board should have knowledge of the MBDA’s mandate area and developmental objectives and have skills in the categories of Property Development, Finance, Legal, Corporate Social Investment, Arts, Heritage, Culture, Human Resources, Strategy, Youth Development and Woman Development. It is further desirous that persons wishing to be nominated to the Board of Directors have knowledge of the MBDA’s mandate area and the MBDA’s developmental objectives.
Potential candidates are to note that in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000, the following persons are not eligible to be Directors of the MBDA: A person holding office as Councillor of any Municipality, A Member of the National Assembly of Provincial Legislature, A permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces, An official of the NMBMM, Any person who has been convicted of any offence and sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine, and a period of five (5) years since completion of such sentence has not lapsed, A person who has been declared by a Court to be of unsound mind and an un-rehabilitated insolvent.
The Members of the MBDA accordingly call for expressions of interest to be submitted by persons wishing to be considered for nomination to the Board of Directors of the MBDA, subject to the approval of the Mayoral Committee of the NMBMM. Any person wishing to be considered by the Members of the MBDA for nomination to the Board of Directors of the MBDA are invited to submit comprehensive Curriculum Vitae in a sealed envelope
delivered to the Office of the Municipal Manager, City Hall, Market Square, Port Elizabeth, 6001 (PO Box 116, Port Elizabeth, 6000) clearly markedRequest to be Nominated as a Director to the MBDA,for the attention of the Executive Director for Economic Development, Mr Anele Qaba by not later than 16h00 on 30 May 2014.
