When NMMU music student Brinley Yon (22) joined the cast of TwoTone Music’s Tuxedo Club in March this year, he had no idea how quickly he would become a firm favourite in the TwoTone show stable.
His zany stage antics, vocal versatility and overall star quality has had audiences rolling in the aisles and listening in disbelief as he effortlessly moves from honeyed crooning to outrageous growling and vocal acrobatics.
Director Ulagh Williams fondly recalls the days when Brinley was one of her students at Westering High and had a small chorus part in her stage production “Latino Inferno”.
“Little did we know that almost a decade later, he would be a TwoTone show regular and featured artist in another Latin show of mine, this time as the main vocal attraction!” says Williams.
Brinley will be fronting an eight-piece band in TwoTone Music’s “Tequila! The Ultimate Latin Party” that will be staged on 1 December at Summerwood Primary School (Second Avenue, Summerstrand).
“The growth in Brinley’s vocal skills has been phenomenal this year and he has really honed his craft in our recent series of Tuxedo Club shows and various other corporate gigs.
“I am excited about the tricks we have up our sleeve for our the Tequila’ show – audience members will be singing and dancing along to the selection of music we have lined up, and with Brinley in the mix, no one is safe from his hilarious onslaught!”
The band, led by director Ulagh Williams (keyboards and vocals) features some of the Bay’s top musos including Devon van Rooyen (drums), Ema Angileri (bass) and Creshwell October (guitar).
A live brass section will add some fiery Latin spirit and features Kyle Du Preez (trombone), Marlon Louis (trumpet) and another NMMU music student, Andrea Morris (saxophone and backing vocals).
The show will feature music from artists like Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Lou Bega, The Gipsy Kings, Carlos Santana, Los Lobos and many more.
The show starts at 8pm and seating is unreserved and restaurant style. Patrons are invited to bring their own snacks and make use of the available bar facility. Tickets cost R120 at the door and R95 for prepaid bookings. To book, call Ulagh on 083 627 4686 or e-mail info[at]twotonemusic.co.za.
