After topping their group on Saturday the team reached the final without conceding a point, thrashing Portugal 45-0 in the quarterfinals and hammering Argentina 31-0 in the semifinals.
The runaway winners in the last leg of the series in Dubai, Fiji, were surprisingly beaten by Samoa in the quarter-finals. Samoa were then outplayed by the ever-dangerous New Zealand in the semifinals.
The final could not have begun worse for the BlitzBoks as New Zealand raced to a 14-0 lead before the hosts could even get out of their half.
However, sustained pressure eventually led to an unconverted try by Branco du Preez.
Urged on by the crowd the BlitzBoks poured forward, and with New Zealand reduced to six men Du Preez scored again to make the halftime score 14-12.
New Zealand put on the pressure at the start of the second half but magnificent defence kept them out.
After bringing on the substitutes South African captain Kyle Brown won a lineout and broke away to score, giving South Africa the lead at 17-14, which they held until the final whistle.
After this victory South Africa move up to second place in the series, two points behind New Zealand.
