DUBAI – The Blitzbokke are in Dubai preparing for the second leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.
Neil Powell’s team is looking to improve on its fourth place finish in the first leg on Australia’s Gold Coast.
South Africa is in Group D along with Argentina, Russia and defending champions Samoa.
It’s been five years since the Blitzbokke last won in Dubai.
In 2008 they defeated England 19-12 in the final on the way to winning the World Series, but since then South Africa has experienced a dry period in the desert.
They will be hoping that the inclusion of Absa Currie Cup sensation Cheslin Kolbe can inspire them in the UAE.
Powell made three changes to the squad that was beaten in the Gold Coast semi-final by Australia.
Together with Kolbe and livewire scrumhalf Branko Du Preez, Powell feels Werner Kok’s inclusion will strengthen the Blitzbokke.
South Africa kick off the tournament against Argentina at 7.40am on Friday morning.
They then play Russia at ten past 11 and Samoa at five to five in the afternoon.
