After last weeks near victory against the Sharks in Durban, the Southern Kings were feeling buoyant and expecting of a good showing against the Lions in Port Elizabeth‘s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 25 March 2017.
The Southern Kings once again opened the scoring in the first minute when Andisa Ntsila charged down Lions fullback, Andries Coetzee’s kick for clearance to score a try. The Lionel Cronje conversion was good and expectations from the home crowd soared for around a minute until Lions winger, Madosh Tambwe crashed over for the equalizer converted by Elton Jantjies.
Two more Lions tries and conversions were answered by an uncoverted try from Yaw Penxe only to be answered by a sideswipe from the Lions bringing the wounds to 35-12 at half time.
Continuing on their flash of ‘brilliance at the start’ the Southern Kings opened the second half with a Malcolm Jaer try converted by Lionel Cronje to take the Kings to 19 points on the board in the 40th minute.
It took the Lions 35 minutes to answer that try and seal the mauling with 42 points to the Southern Kings 19.
The Southern Kings have a bye this week and will be hoping that the Sharks will bite down hard on the Lions in their upcoming game.
