The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality’s Fire Department have issued a warning to businesses not to use unregistered service providers to service fire equipment in the city.
In a statement issued this afternoon municipal spokesman, Kupido Baron said the fire department was aware of unregistered service providers of fire equipment that currently service fire extinguishers in Nelson Mandela Bay.
“The incorrect servicing of fire equipment could proof to be detrimental when a fire breaks out resulting in defective extinguishers that could lead to more damage to property,” he said.
Baron said some companies were also allegedly still servicing fire extinguishers with green labels, which had been discontinued from 2003 due to environmental concerns.
“Fire extinguishers still in use have red, blue, black and cream labels at the back,” he said.
Baron said the following companies are registered with the South African Qualification Certification Committee – Fire (S.A.Q.C.C.):
1. Coast 2 Coast Fire
2. Chubb Fire – Port Elizabeth
3. G-one Fire
4. SRH Fire Protection
5. A L Fire
6. Wilbran CC trading as Phoenix Fire Protection
7. Bayteck Fire – P.E.
8. Fire General CC
9. Transnet NPA – P.E.; and
10. Landmarine Fire Fittings.
“Please note if any other company besides the above mentioned serviced your fire extinguishers, consider getting a registered company to service it again or replace your extinguishers,” he said.
