COULD someone please show Malema and the Youth League how to mould a beret to fit properly?
What ‘better lives’ on way?
I REJECT various statements by developer Don McGillivray, of Metrowind (“Developer says jobs and better lives on the way”, February 29). In official documentation to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa), it appears only seven jobs will be created during the operation phase.
This scam prejudices real needy
ACCORDING to last Monday’s Herald, Vuyani Ngcobo is still scamming (“Confessions of a ‘mute’ stun church”). We and a few other people were caught by him when we found him lying at the side of the road with his suitcase, crutch and clipboard.
Devolve energy planning to local authorities
I WONDER how long we are going to plan future developments in the province in the dark. The Eastern Cape department of economic development and environmental affairs (Dedea) is pushing for an “EC sustainable energy strategy” and an “EC innovation strategy” to be finalised soon.
Nationalisation brings many benefits
CERTAIN sections of the population are resisting the call for economic freedom. Let me first attempt to explain the attitude of this section of the population in trying to maintain the status quo.
Metro forgotten Despatch exists
I’M not terribly surprised that the u-18 Craven Week rugby has now been taken away from us here in Despatch. We’ve grown accustomed to not benefiting from most of the things in the metro.
Bay Stars must win through to top level
BAY Stars remain our only realistic hope to get promotion to the next level. Failing to do so will cast a shadow on the region’s ability ever to get to the PSL.
Against proposed ‘barn’ theatre
IN reaction to the letter, “Campaign not in best interests of residents” (February 29), the objections are not against the development of a business complex on the land zoned for business purposes. It is against the rezoning of residential land to develop, inter alia, a “barn-like theatre” seating upward of 400 people.
Kouga must be put under administration
THE Kouga Municipality has just been rated the worst financially sustainable municipality in the Eastern Cape and the third worst in South Africa by Ratings Afrika.

MONDAY’s Herald made reference to the International Rotary Society (“Family fun”).

PIET Naude sucks. His asinine articles are the worst I’ve ever read in The Herald in more than 40 years. Do we deserve his banal broeder banter?
Put politics aside to aid community
ON Thursday February 23, I put an urgent matter to the NMB council at a full council meeting.
Skype reports prove effective
I MUST disagree with Leon Muston’s criticism of Antony and Cleopatra (“Ambitious tech lets play down”, February 17).
Fire victims in dire need of food, clothing
MY domestic worker was one of the people who lost everything in the fire on Sunday in Walmer Township. They have received minimal help – they’ve been given stale bread and stale fried chips to eat.
Campaign not in best interests of residents
I HAVE been interested to note that our Ward 8 councillor is actively campaigning against the proposed development of the vacant property adjacent to the Apple Express rail/road crossing in Lorraine and behind the Kragga Kamma Road KwikSpar. I can only wonder at the thought process which leads him in that direction.

Bhisho must improve recruitment
WITH reference to the article “EC battles to retain service delivery skills”, February 20, the issue of the Eastern Cape losing skills is far-fetched. Most of the people from the Eastern Cape do want to come back and use the skills they have acquired for the advancement of the province.
Follow due process in firing metro officials
IT is with great glee that I find Leon de Villiers agreeing with at least two of the points made in my letter (“Investigate Faku for wasteful spending”, February 23). By the way Leon, we, as ratepayers, are also paying for the mayor’s alarm system at his house and the petrol his guards are using in hired cars which we are also paying for.
Appalled by violence against woman
ON Friday, the headlines of The Herald exposed yet another cruel rape in Port Elizabeth (“Elderly Bay woman raped”). The DA Women’s Network (Dawn) is appalled by this crime and all gender violence that reduces women to victims and commodities.
State-owned enterprises fail environment
SINCE before 2008, the ANC controlled Nelson Mandela Bay Metro environmental initiatives has repeatedly failed to address its “… most pressing concerns related to the levels of toxic dust from the manganese ore terminal (Transnet port terminals) and uncontained leaks from the oil tank farm (Shell) – both of which failed to meet health and safety requirements”.
Signage for stadium
OUR wonderful stadium is extremely difficult to find unless you are a local Mandela Bay resident.
Touchy land question must be laid to rest
DEPUTY Minister of Agriculture Dr Pieter Mulder must apologise for his statement on the land question to avoid racial problems between whites and blacks.
Disaster as Swartkops River fouled again
JUST as the Markman Canal was really looking much better after last year’s breakdown of both the Studebaker and Aloes pump stations in Markman, it has happened once again.
ANC needs ‘critical medical help’
Aid for gutted community
ON Sunday afternoon, 21 shacks were burnt to ashes and more than 40 people left homeless in a fire.
