THE best of Nelson Mandela Bay female boxers will feature in an-All-women international boxing tournament to be held at Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth this Friday 24 February.
Nangoza Jebe Hall, former the Great Centenary Hall is the home of boxing. Great fights used to held at this hall where great champions were produced.
Presented by female promoter Phindile Mbhele who promotes under the banner of Aphile Boxing Promotions the tournament, sanctioned and supported by Boxing South Africa (BSA) will see World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super Welterweight champion Noni “She Bee Stinging” Tenge of East London locking horns with Gauteng’s Esther Mashiya over eight rounds in the Junior Middleweight division.
Mashiya, with a professional record of 21 fights, 10 wins (1Knock out), eight losses and three stalemates is the country’s Junior Middleweight champion while Tenge, the former WBF Female Welterweight, Interim WBA Female Welterweight and IBF World Boxing Female Welterweight champion is 18-16(10)-1-1.
Fireworks could be expected in the bout as the two female gladiators would be doing this for the second time. Tenge won their first encounter in 2013 on points.
Nelson Mandela Bay’s South African Junior Lightweight champion Nozipho “Intsimbi” Bell will put her title on the line against challenger Sinethemba Ngcobo of KwaZulu Natal over 10 rounds while Ntabiseng Didi, the 2016 BSA Female Prospect of the Year from Motherwell will fight against Uitenhage, KwaNobuhle’s Portia Base in another humdinger for the Eastern Cape Junior Flyweight title over eight rounds.
In another title fight over eight rounds, Motherwell’s Sandisiwe Gxogxo will trade leather with the Eastern Cape Bantamweight champion Babalwa Ngqondelana from East London while former SA Junior lightweight title holder Nomampondomise Xotyeni from KwaNobuhle is aiming to win-back her title but must first overcome the challenge of Zizipho Kosa of the Western Cape whom she fights over six rounds in the lightweight division.
In the first bout, Xolisa Jonas of Govan Mbeki (Ezinyoka) will trade leather against KZN’s Zintle Ndlovu, also over six rounds.
The first bout starts at 6pm. Admission is R40 adults and students in school uniform enter free of charge. The weigh-in is at the same venue at 4pm.
