Some of SA’s top young triathletes are expected to be in action tomorrow as the 2nd round of the About IT Triathlon Summer Series takes place from Pollok Beach starting at 8am.
In a tradition which has gone back many years, the triathlon hosted on the Day of Reconciliation sees athletes racing from Pollok Beach to Schoenies. The 750m takes place at Pollok Beach before the triathletes cycle 20km to the quaint village of Schoenmakerskop and finish off with e 5km trail run along the Sacramento Trail.
18 year old Keegan Cooke, winner of Round 1 on Sunday morning, will start as one of the favourites but will have some stiff competition from the likes of SA Triathlete Nathan Le Roux from East London who has entered for the Series but still needs to make an appearance. Favourite in the ladies race will be Liza Kingston who has held the Series crown for the last 8 years and was a comfortable winner at Round 1.
The interesting format of a one-way triathlon race requires organisers, Zsports Events NPC, to ensure all the athletes run and swim kit are taken to and from the two transition points at Pollok Beach and Schoenies and to this effect, support sponsors Oracle Media and Black Sheep Industries are on hand to transport all the kit.
Late entries and pre-registration opens at 6.30am at Pollok Beach behind the Summerstrand LIfesaving Club with the race starting at 8am. First participants are expected to reach the Schoenies Village from 8.40am and the winner should complete their run and cross the finish line at the Sacramento Trail just after 9am.
Maps and further information is available on www.TriSummerSeries.co.za. Round 3 of this 4 race Series will take place at Pollok Beach on Sunday 20th followed by the finale at Port St Francis on Saturday 26th December with great lucky draw prizes up for grabs including Nutritech products and two R500 Caltex fuel vouchers.
