Nelson Mandela Bay’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) hope, Bay Stars, redeemed themselves by thrashing Bush Bucks 7 – 0 at Gelvandale Stadium yesterday after suffering a first defeat this season (1 – 0) at the hands of Mighty Greens on Wednesday in Lady Grey.
Even though yesterday’s match was the second Vodacom League match for Bay Stars this week, they showed no signs of fatigue. They started the match like a house on fire when Lutho Totwana scored his first goal of the match only five minutes after kick-off.
Bay Stars’ Wade Jooste increased the lead three minutes later to 2 – 0 by scoring off a cross. The visitors showed much more resistance during the rest of the first half as Bush Bucks started to get a better defensive structure in place.
However, they soon stared down the barrel of the gun again when the second half kicked off. Farouk Abrahams increased the lead to 3 – 0. Stars became runaway traffic for the former PSL side as their net was once again disturbed when John Giannakis scored for the home team. Lutho Totwana scored his second of the match and the opponents found themselves on 5 – 0.
Unfortunately for Bush Bucks it was not the end of their nightmare as John Giannakis managed to score twice more due to defensive blunders. This left the visitors red in the face as the match ended with seven unanswered goals by a very determined home team.
