Freight Rail were among 77 companies named by the Top Employers Institute (TEI) as best employers.
The global human resource certification organisation recognises leading employers, assessing them on a range of qualities, including talent strategy and leadership development. According to its website, certification is awarded to organisations that demonstrate high standards of employee programmes and staff offerings focused on development.
Other South African companies on the list include Clientele, Old Mutual, Sanlam, Howden Africa, and Anglo American Platinum.
The institute said its research into the companies showed that they provided exceptional employee conditions, nurtured and developed talent throughout all levels of the organisation, and had demonstrated their leadership status in the human resources environment.
They always strove to optimise employment practices and to develop employees.
This is VWSA’s fifth top employer award, with the company having come out in the top two positions in the automotive industry.
VWSA communications general manager Matt Gennrich said the award was justification for all the company’s hard work in being people-centred, “This is an important and credible recognition. And to have a global company confirm our efforts is great,” Gennrich said.
The CDC is getting the award for the second year in a row, as is Goodyear. CDC spokesman Ayanda Vilakazi said the company was humbled. “To be issued with this certification again acknowledges the emphasis the CDC places on our staff, who develop the business,” he said.
Goodyear managing director Jean-Jacques Wiroth said: “We are delighted to be officially recognised as a leading employer.
