The holiday art programme at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum will offer diverse and interesting activities to do in the holidays. The activities include; paper crafts, model making using card, recycling found objects and making a Makarapa for the 2013 Orange – AFCON Tournament. For inspiration and guidance, activities use the backdrop of current exhibitions to encourage participants to explore art making techniques.
The holiday programme is as follows:

- Dates: Wednesday 12 December 2012: Pop-up greeting cards, Thursday 13 December 2012: Model making, Friday 14 December 2012: Decorative paper crafts
The workshop in December is aimed at children between 7 to 14 years focusing on paper crafts. Children will work with fun themes on different days exploring paper and card. The workshop promises fun and excitement for both girls and boys, they will be making functional art from greeting cards to functional items made from paper. The participants may bring items they would like to add in their art.
CELEBRATE THE 2013 ORANGE – AFCON TOURNAMENT AND DESIGN YOUR OWN MAKARAPA

- Dates: Wednesday 9 January 2013: Sketching and designing a Makarapa, Thursday 10 January 2013: Cutting, molding and decorating a Makarapa
Port Elizabeth is one of the cities chosen to host the 2013 Orange – AFCON Tournament matches in January. Wouldn’t it be nice to watch the match wearing your own designed Makarapa?
As part of the holiday programmes the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum will run a Makarapa making and decorating workshop from Wednesday to Thursday January 2013. To facilitate the success of this two day workshop space is limited to 15 people, early booking is advised.
All the workshops start at 09h00 and finish at 12h00 daily, unless specified. Please provide own lunch. Each workshop costs R30.00 inclusive of art material and equipment. Bookings are essential as space is offered on first come first serve criteria.
