The DA welcomes the swift arrest by the SAPS of a suspect in the farm murder of Jonathan Troskie last week in the Cookhouse area.
They must continue to pull out all stops to arrest all culprits involved in this ghastly deed so that the climate of safety and security can be improved in our rural communities for the benefit of all the people.
Each time a farmer is murdered it impacts on the economic viability of our fragile rural economy as it makes it a less attractive place to invest in. This in turn has a negative spinoff for job creation and food security.
The Eastern Cape economy is suffering under the impact of high unemployment and we cannot afford any more job losses. The whole community has a vested interest in ensuring the culprits are brought to book.
We urge the SAPS to leave no stone unturned and the community to come forward with any evidence that might assist the SAPS.
The DA extends its condolences to the family.
