Police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect just outside of Queenstown yesterday after the man and his accomplices allegedly robbed a Post Office in Ilinge just after 5pm.
Police spokesman, Warrant Officer Namhla Mdleleni from Whittlesea, said three men had enetered the premises and had held the Post Office staff at gun-point, demanding money.
“Police received information about the armed robbery, and on arrival a shoot-out ensued, which resulted in one suspect being shot and killed on the scene,” she said.
Mdleleni said police also managed to arrest a second person, while the other suspect was still at large.
“Police recovered an undisclosed amount of money that was taken from Post Office and a case of armed robbery has been opened and is under investigation,” she said.
Mdleleni said the man who had been arrested will appear at the Ilinge Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
