ANCYL condemns killing of Somali shop owner in Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth (Mareeg.com) The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) condemns with the utmost contempt the killing of the Somali Shop-Owner in Port Elizabeth as part of the disgusting xenophobic attacks that have been occurring in the past week.
This brutal act is nothing but an act of criminality and represents a regressive and backward mentality that perpetuates disunity, hatred and tribalism amongst Africans. It takes place just six days after the continent of Africa has just celebrated 50th anniversary of formation of the OAU, under theme “2013: Year of Pan Africanism and African Renaissance”.
What perturbs the ANCYL more is the involvement of young people in this ghastly act of violence which doesn’t auger well for the future of the Africa. This requires that the ANCYL should hasten its rebuilding and repositioning as it will be required to intensify political education for young people especially as it pertains to Africa.
Part of the programmes for Youth Month will be highlighting the importance of the unity of Africa as the young people stand to benefit from the peace and prosperity of Africa as our founder members proclaimed that the “Africa’s agenda must succeed”
The ANCYL calls on the law enforcement agencies to act speedily in arresting and prosecuting those involved in this case of murder
