Local news reports have revealed the obvious racist views that are held by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
One of the DA’s senior Nelson Mandela Bay Councillors, Stanford Slabbert is guilty of spreading racist DA propaganda which, among other things, insults the President, insults Black people, and insults all South Africans in general. Whilst we have come to expect such racism from elements within the DA, we are particularly disturbed by the blatantly offensive language displayed in this communication which makes no apology for the extreme racism it propagates.
Councillor Slabbert claims that he forwarded the e-mail without having read its contents. The ANC does not believe this to be true: by his own reckoning, the Councillor had resent the e-mail to fellow DA Councillors’ private e-mail addresses, after it had been initially rejected by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s e-mail server.
The ANC is shocked and appalled at the casual flippant attitude of DA caucus leader Leon de Villiers who simply brushes this blatant racism aside as an unfortunate “piece of communication”, saying further that the DA would “not chastise Cllr Slabbert”.
The African National Congress Nelson Mandela Region demands that the Democratic Alliance and Councillor Slabbert offer a sincere and unequivocal apology to the country’s President, the people of South Africa, and black people in particular for spreading racism, division and dissent in our country. We intend lodging a formal complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission and the Institute of Race Relations.
