JOHANNESBURG – The ANC’s narrow majority in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been further reduced.
The party now holds a two-seat majority after losing the Ward 30 by election in Veeplaas yesterday.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) won 49 percent of the vote, followed by the ANC’s 41 percent.
The DA received nine-percent of the vote.
Just over 40-percent of registered voters made their marks.
In the 2011 local government elections, the ANC won the ward with 64 percent support.
The ANC now holds 62 seats, the DA 48 and the UDM 2 seats in the 120 seat council.
