In terms of electoral law, the ANC cannot redo and resubmit its Ward Candidate Lists. The electoral act is quite clear on the submission deadline, which was the 2nd June 2016 and is non-negotiable.
Any attempt to redo and resubmit the ANC Ward Candidate List would be illegal.
The DA and all other parties were held to a strict deadline with which we complied.
The ANC’s suggestion yesterday that it would attempt to redraft its candidate list shows that the ANC is in disarray in NMB, and is a divided party. Trying to rewrite candidate lists after the deadline is a sign of a broken and fractured organisation.
The ANC must now stand by its list, and if factions cannot support the chosen candidates then the ANC must deal with its fractures internally.
The ANC must not allow its internal violent fractures to spill out onto the streets; any ANC violence about lists will be reported to the IEC and the SAPS immediately.
This is an opportunity for the IEC to reaffirm its commitment to free and fair elections, and the DA expects that the ANC will be told to comply with the law, as all other parties do.
The DA can win the Bay this year, with the vote of every single DA supporter.
We are ready to deliver better services, stop corruption and create jobs.
