Port Elizabeth’s famous Traffic Cops missed out on a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and rake in piles of cash this past Sunday 19 January 2014.
As we turned onto the walkway along Hobie Beach yesterday we noticed cars parked all along the grassed section stretching from Hobie Beach all the way to the turn off to Pollock. Initially we shrugged it off as some kind of organised event but upon closer inspection we saw that the entrance gate to the grassed area off of 2nd Avenue, Summerstrand was broken and being manned by an enterprising car guard rattling his cup at everyone leaving.
Of course the need to chat to him arose in me and I grabbed my tablet to record our quick conversation.
What really gets under my skin is that every single person who had parked there was doing so probably in the full knowledge that they were WRONG. You cannot begin to tell me that a car guard would actually be placed in charge of access to such a sensitive area!
According to the car guard this is the first time since the New Year that he has seen people parking in this sensitive area.
The tragically laughable aspect of this was the car guard telling me that he was trying to make money in an honest way – he didn’t quite understand when I pointed out to him that he wasn’t really as his ‘clients’ were all being dishonest.
Now the ratepayers have to once again fork out to repair the mess created by hundreds of selfish miscreants.
NOT FAIR people.
