Three alleged gangster from Port Elizabeth are in police custody following their arrests on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and illegal possession of ammunition.
“It is alleged that on Monday, at about 19:00, members of the Visible Gang Intervention Unit assisted by PE Flying Squad followed up on information received of possible firearms at a house in Bellflower Road Bethelsdorp,” said local police.
“Response was immediate and as police approached the house, the group of males standing outside started to disperse.
“Three suspects started running with police members in pursuit. One suspect threw a firearm in the yard of a house while the other passed on another firearm to a third person.
“Two more firearms were thrown onto the roof of another house as suspects ran.”
Police said that excellent co-ordination and cordoning off of the immediate area by Flying Squad members, Visible Gang intervention Unit members and Bethelsdorp members resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of three firearms.
“The suspects are affiliated to the Spotbouers. Two 9mm pistols with rounds and a revolver was confiscated. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon,” police said.
