ACT to host seminar in Port Elizabeth

ACT – Arts and Culture Trust
06/03/2013 14:22:42

The Arts Culture Trust (ACT) Information Sharing and Networking Seminar will take place at 3pm on 26 June at the Savoy Theatre in Port Elizabeth.

The seminar will provide valuable information regarding opportunities offered through the Trust’s programmes and will include a presentation on Copyright as well as an overview of processes and procedures of obtaining public performance rights, reprographic reproduction rights and reproduction rights for visual art works.

“We look forward to hosting arts, culture and heritage organisations and individual practitioners from the Eastern Cape,” says Pieter Jacobs, Chief Executive of ACT. “In an attempt to ensure equitable distribution of funds, the Trust is targeting areas identified as under-served by the ACT Trustees, to encourage engagement from practitioners in these regions,” he adds.

As a sustainable Trust, ACT’s core mandate, for the long-term, is to build reserves, whilst supporting a range of arts, culture and heritage projects in the short-term. The Information Sharing and Networking Seminar will cast a spotlight on how ACT balances this long-term objective with the short-term needs of its beneficiaries. A range of programmes contributes to the fulfilment of ACT’s vision and mission. At this event, ACT’s CEO will offer an overview of these programmes, funding guidelines, assessment criteria and the user-friendly online application process.

André Cloete, Senior Administrator of Theatrical Rights at the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), will share performance rights and copyright insights. “Attendees will find that, through the DALRO presentation, they will gain and understanding of the importance of performance rights and copyright. Our motto is ‘Where The Awesome Producers Go’ and this talk will empower practitioners with the information to become exactly that,” he noted.

The Information Sharing and Networking Seminar is made possible by the support of the Savoy Theatre. To register to attend the session, please send an email with your full name and contact details to info@act.org.za by no later than 14 June 2013. For more information please contact the Arts Culture Trust on 011 712 8403.
