This may just be the best One Hundred Rand you spend in your life.
During TEDxPortElizabeth’s third salon event on Saturday afternoon 9 September at Art on Target, Rushka Johnson, an environmental activist, seed freedom guardian, permaculture enthusiast and organic vegetable farmer will tackle the topic “A Seed in Time”.
Johnson is an environmental activist against GMO’s and the monopoly of seeds, farms and foods.
In a recent interview on Netupwomen Rushka said; “I have cared for the earth and environment from childhood. My grandmother is an earth warrior, often ridiculed for refusing to use medicines but herbal remedies and healthy foods instead. Ranting about the ozone layer and how we need to protect it before it was even a term. One thing she taught me that I will never forget “you can always wash your hands” and that nature is perfect and has all that you need. Man made chemicals and poisons have no place there.”
TEDxPortElizabeth’s third salon event with the theme titled “Shaping the Future” will take place at Art on Target.
Times and conditions are changing so are opportunities, the only way to secure our place is to constantly stay focused on our future. It is up to the youth to cultivate the change we need by creating solutions for us, by us.
The future is taking place with or without us… Will we shape the future or turn a blind eye?
Port Elizabeth based Rushka shares her permaculture life on her popular YouTube Channel – Living the Good Life with Rushka.
The two other speakers on the bill are:
- Sam Beynon, MA (Political Science) graduate from Nelson Mandela University has appeared on the SABC 1 TV show Future Leaders Season 4 and One Day Leader Season 3, will explore the concept of “Choice, Chances and Changes”
- Sakhumzi Nyedwana, a visual artist from Motherwell uses his technical ability by means of paints and brushes to explore new ideas around his culture, history and the journeys of his everyday life. He will be sharing his views about the “Mother Tongue”.
