Nelson Mandela Bay will be celebrating the 94th birthday of the iconic leader after whom it is named with a giant birthday card that will be unveiled during a celebration to be hosted at The Boardwalk on Madiba’s birthday, 18 July.
Everyone is invited to the celebrations, which will feature a number of national and local artists, as well as the unveiling of the five metre by six metre card, covered with 10 000 signatures collected from the people of Nelson Mandela Bay, according to Karen Hermanus, from NGO Nelson Mandela Bay Cares.
The festivities around The Boardwalk lakes start at six thirty on Wednesday evening, but well-wishers are encouraged to come early to ensure they have time to order a snack and something to drink from the new Boardwalk Fast Food Court or one of the restaurants.
Local entertainers to be seen will include Lee-anne Whales, Patrick Lindoor, Charmaine Allison, Yardley, Mark Hermanus and Sharon Oosthuizen.
The headline act, Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels, will take to the stage after Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Richard Baloyi unveil the card.
The card will then be on display in the foyer of the mayor’s office at City Hall.
