25 April 2016 By Google

APRIL 25, 2016

On Sunday the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality announced that in the past week, the Human Settlement Portfolio Chairperson, Cllr Nomvuselelo Tontsi, delivered a house to a 98- year old granny known as uMama Novintoyimbi Mbilini.

“Residing in Missionvale, the old lady was officially moved from her backyard shack to a brand new RDP house in Wells Estate,” the municipality said.

“Novintoyimbi’s plight was noticed by a Task Team that the Human Settlements Directorate established for Missionvale to prioritise the destitute and needy, focusing on the elderly, people with disabilities and child-headed households, and capturing them on the priority Housing list.”

The hand-over also forms part of the Executive Mayor’s programme of speeding up service delivery to the people of Nelson Mandela Bay, uMama Novintoyimbi has been living in a one-room shack  with her son in Missionvale for the past six years. There was no privacy, and she suffers from a number of age-related diseases.

“Today is a testimony of our commitment and dedication to service delivery, all thanks to the Missionvale Task Team for identifying uMama Novintoyimbi and listing her name for consideration by the Department.  Soon we will launch 602 houses build in the City in this financial year,” commented Cllr Tontsi.

Missionvale residents sang and rejoiced, thanking the Municipality for coming to the rescue of  senior citizens.

“I am extremely happy, I want to thank the government for taking care of the elderly,” said uMama Mbilini.
