The Eastern Cape Children’s Choir (ECCC) will be hosting, and performing with, three visiting international children’s choirs during 2012, as part of their 30th birthday celebrations, starting with the Vox Aurea Children’s Choir from Jyväskylä, Finland on Thursday, 8 March at 19h00, in the Summerstrand Dutch Reformed Church.
The two choirs met for the first time when the ECCC visited Jyväskylä during their 9th international concert tour in September 2008.
Led by the talented conductor, Sanna Salminen, who visited Port Elizabeth with the award winning Ruamjai Youth Choir in October 2009, Vox Aurea (the Golden voice) consists of 35-45 singers between the ages of 11 and 18. Vox Aurea is one of the best children’s choirs in Finland and is also internationally recognized as one of the best in the world, having won awards in many national and international competitions. The choir has travelled widely in Europe, North America and Asia, and has recorded a number of CD’s, including both classical and very demanding modern choral music.
Vox Aurea’s tour repertoire consists of a variety of music, including a large portion of Finnish Folk music, as well as modern choral works and some traditional South African music.
Tickets will be available at the door at R50.00 for adults and R30.00 for pensioners, students and scholars.
Patrons can also look forward to a visit from the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus in July, as well as the Prague Philharmonic Children’s Choir in October.
Other events on the ECCC calendar include the choir’s 11th international concert tour, to Switzerland, Austria and Germany in September, two Prestige concerts (in Jeffreys Bay and Port Elizabeth), appearances at choir festivals and a number of performances during Sunday church services around Port Elizabeth.
