2014 NMMU Sportswoman of the Year

Proteas netball player Zanele Vimbela of the NMMU Netball Club, is the 2014 NMMU Sportswoman of the Year.

Zanele represented the SA Senior National Team at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in July this year and competed as part of the SA Senior National Team in the Diamond Series in SA.

Vimbela first joined the SPAR Proteas for the Fast Five Netball World Series – an abbreviated version of the game – in New Zealand last year and was also part of the invitational team for the Diamond Challenge series against Malawi, Botswana and Zambia in Port Elizabeth. She was also part of the USSA national team for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Games.

In 2013, she was NMMU Netball Player of the Year as well as EP Netball Player of the Year.

Vimbela will complete her postgraduate studies in sociology this year.
