2014 ImpACT Awards open for nominations

13 May 2014 By MyPortElizabeth

The Arts Culture Trust (ACT) invites nominations for its ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals, which are presented as part of their annual Awards Ceremony held in recognition and celebration of excellence in South African arts, culture and creativity.

Since 1998, the ACT Awards have recognised individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to cultural life in South Africa. A prominent element of the ACT Awards is the presentation of prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards allocated by the ACT Board of Trustees. Additionally, four ImpACT Awards are awarded annually to honour young professional artists whose work have made an impact within the first five years of their professional careers.

ImpACT Awards are presented in four broad arts categories with selected disciplines being eligible for consideration in each.

Public nominations are now open in the following categories:

  1. ImpACT Award for Visual Art – Artists working in the mediums of Fine Art, Sculpting, Public Installations and Photography are eligible for nomination.
  2. ImpACT Award for Theatre – Artists practicing the disciplines of Dance, Acting, Writing for Theatre, Musical Theatre and Physical Theatre are eligible for nomination.
  3. ImpACT Award for Music Singing – Classical, Contemporary and Jazz composers, musicians and singers are eligible for nomination.
  4. ImpACT Award for Design – Artists working in the areas of Craft, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Arts-based Web Design are eligible for nomination.

“We would like to encourage nominations for young creatives from around the country. At what is often a crucial time in their careers, it’s vital for both the artists and the industry that those who are deserving of the recognition – particularly those who are based in areas where opportunities may be limited – receive the boost that an Award like this can help provide.” says ACT CEO Pieter Jacobs.

ACT is open for nominations for the ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals until 08 August 2014. Winners of ImpACT Awards are selected by an independent panel of judges and will be announced at the Awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Johannesburg in November 2014. The 2014 ImpACT Awards are presented in partnership with the Distell Foundation. Previous ImpACT Award winners include The Muffinz, Motlatji Ditodi, Phillip Dikotla, Blessing Ngobeni, Camron Andrews, Bambo Sibiya and Ozlo Clothing Store.
