(Johannesburg)The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations kicked off today with hosts South Africa playing Cape Verde.
The opening match kicked off Saturday evening in front of a sell-out 90,000 crowd at Soccer City stadium in Soweto and ended in a nil-nil draw.
The second match of the day featuring Angola Vs Morrocco is due at 2100 HRS.
The tournament which was due to take place in Libya was moved to South Africa after the Arab spring upheavals made it feasibly impossible to stage it there.
Didier Drogba at 34 years, and his Ivory Coast team mates would be out to regain the lost pride after suffering two defeats at the finals, against Zambia last year and Egypt in 2006.
Defending champions Zambia are out to win it again and their coach Herve Renard says ‘it will be very difficult to beat this Zambian team’.
However perennial lackluster Zimbabwe will watch the tournament from the comfort of their sofas after giving away a potentially winnable last round qualifying match fixture to Angola.
