1878: Jetty Street
Jetty Street and the Hill from the North Jetty.
These days people will be hard pressed to find Jetty Street which has been reduced to a walkway alongside the Bus Station and the old Campanile Hotel in Strand Street.
In the early 1900’s there was a two storey house – the upper portion of which was occupied by Melvil Du Toit, auctioneer and law agent, whilst below was the greengrocers shop of Lakadien. Next door was Crighton’s Store, followed by the select sweet shop of Mrs Evans and then a bottle store.
