In KwaZulu-Natal, schools managed by principals who have undergone the Principals’ Management Development Programme (PMDP) have significantly outperformed “non-trained” schools. Since late 2012, the PMDP was rolled out by the Department of Education (DoE) in the Eastern Cape in partnership with ETDP SETA and has been delivered to 150 of the Eastern Cape’s over 5 000 schools. However, on Friday, 14 June 2013, the Eastern Cape’s Department of Education’s Chief Director: Education Professional Services (EPS), Mr Ncanywa announced Phase 2, where school management training will be provided to another group of 217 school principals and HODs. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar
We at MyPE have been running the MyPE Business Directory for just on 9 years and I always get asked how effective being listed in the directory is. In a nutshell I can state that most listings in the directory get a fair amount of traffic which must be turning into revenue for them as many people keep their listings up to date and actively engage with us to do so. As with most free services we struggle with the perception that something free cannot have real value, we are never thanked for referring clients, but are always criticised in a knee jerk manner when something goes wrong. Of course, we accept that it is human nature to blame someone else when we occasionally receive ‘strident’ messages like the one I received recently (all identifying words removed). The message went like … [Read More...]

Give thanks to your food
How often do you think about your food while you’re eating it? In our modern world, with our tendency to outsource food production, we’ve lost our connection to almost every aspect of the food chain. My feeling is that this is bound to have consequences down the line… In centuries gone by, we would have had a distinct sense of connection to, and (therefore) gratitude for, the food we ate – after all, we would have grown and harvested it, or raised and slaughtered it, ourselves. These days we walk into a supermarket and find either bags or slabs of it on shelves or in fridges (and, in the case of animal fleshes, it’s often not even called by the animal it actually is – cow, pig and sheep being some examples). The importance of energy: All this helps remove us from our connection … [Read More...]
